Hi Opto. I am by no means the best source of help...so i bow to greater knowledge...
I believe 1ac is defined b battering. It has an extra word. Usual abbreviation for bass, followed by 8 letter word meaning brill, without a 2 letter 'without issue'. The word for brill is very 'Enid Blyton/ PG Wodehouse...'

FINALLY - finished the grid!! I have the same 'product' as mentioned in earlier posts. Can't fully parse 2nd across clue or 2nd down clue - any hints pls? No idea yet what happens next. A real work out this week.

JBird54 - 2ac has a misprint in ANGUS; 2dn has a misprint in EASTER
Have the full grid and some sort of message and letter lengths but no idea how to create an instruction as yet

2D is a proper noun, so is in Google but not Chambers.

At last I get to 466560, but using only 8 factors. Have I missed something? The meaning of the symbols in the grid remains hidden.
