mtyster - enter the indicated cells and you should have two side by side things to solve

Thanks so much candledave - I was reading the instructions incorrectly (as usual), and with your help the penny dropped and I was able to forge ahead and (I think) finish this amazing puzzle. Chapeau, 'Eck! So brilliant...

Candledave, I have looked again at my completed grid and I still can't see anything.
In my grid there are four examples of the English version of the letter given by the first Greek word in the corrections. If I understand the information from the corrections correctly (which I am beginning to doubt) I am required to find words to form the required shapes around these letters, beginning in a cell containing the letter given by the second Greek word and ending in a cell containing the third Greek word.
Am I on the right track or not?

Close - there are 9 of those letters not 4 and then try to find words of the right length starting and ending as you suggest but from anywhere in the shape not necessarily contiguously

0pt0 for this stage it is the preprinted letters in the grid that will guide you. They look like capital letters in the Latin alphabet, but that's not all they could be. You should find nine of what you need, each flanked by one of each of the others, and together with the lengths the nine words should drop out readily. This is only the first step (and brace yourself for what you are about to be asked to do next...!).

I have one parsing query in this most masterful of puzzles. I know what type of clue this is and just can't figure the wordplay and would welcome a nudge. It's the "I arrange" clue, and specifically it's just understanding the last seven words, "no longer beginning before middle of April". My comprehension is being impeded by constantly having to pick my jaw up at the rest of the puzzle. Great work 'Eck!

I broke off to do this week’s puzzle, and having done that have returned to this one. Still blocked. I got the 9 instruction words about last Tuesday, since which time many hours have got me nowhere further at all. Probably understand the first two. Might understand the third and fourth (but far from sure). Beyond that …. A nudge would be appreciated. Thanks.

You're looking for an obsolete 3-letter word meaning 'beginning'
