0pt0, have you made any progress with constructing the grid? The clues naturally get easier once you've got some letters checked.

Thanks Malone and Iratus. On reflection, hints for 19 clues may not have been against the rules of this forum, but I think it certainly would have been contrary to its spirit. I believe I have correct solutions to the across entries in the first four rows of the grid, but the bottom half is where my problems are. So perhaps if I could have hints to the missing entries in my fifth and last rows, it may get me started again. I believe they are the across clues beginning "Burn", "Gas", "Cheats" (possibly) and "Draw".

I have now got the clue beginning "Burn", which I believe completes the middle row.

0pt0, in your remaining three the first word is always the definition. Cheats has two extra words, while the other two have misprints.

I hope that helps.

For 180-degree symmetry, "Burn..." must be centrally placed in the middle row.

I'm well behind most here, I suspect... I have what I assume is a correct completed grid (with five of the eight two-letter cells seeming ambiguous as to their survivors). I suspect the next thing I need to find is the "word lengths for the above instruction set", in order to help extract the instructions, but I am completely failing to understand what the sentence containing the bit about word lengths is actually saying. Anyone have any nudges to help push me along?

CM, suppose that there is a clue answer that reads SECRETE, with the TE fitting in one cell.

Also suppose that the fourth extra word is UNTOLD. That would define an entry of SECRET.

You're keeping the T, which is the third letter of UNTOLD. So, the fourth word of the instruction set will have three letters.

Still with me? If so, I hope that helps.

RHSL, cheers, indeed that was very helpful! I now believe I have nine enumerations, hopefully I can figure out how exactly to apply them!
