Gitto, the penultimate sentence of the preamble is very useful. If, say, the 18th clue’s extra word has an even number of letters, then the move must be N, S, E or W. If an odd number, must be NW, SW, SE or NE. That clarifies several ambiguities
Quisling, I have all the correct directions using that penultimate sentence as some are slightly difficult to interpret from the note. I now understand why the 13th letter that I was struggling to identify requires two (non-cardinal) moves rather than the singular "move" of the note.
cockie - if the symbol is orientated north, the curves bulge to the left; if it's going the south the bulges are to the right - ie the the compass line starts from the centre each time
This is far too much for my feeble brain. I now have my 16th letter in the top row leaving me nowhere to go that makes any sense. Off to find something for my headache, just deciding if it should be in tabular or liquid form.
Thanks Quisling, that would be my 4th letter of the message. I'm sure that my message (connected to a 75th birthday) has to be correct thus far, but the next move eludes me, unless it is the same length/direction as the 2nd move.
