I have what I am sure must be the first thirteen letters of the first deciphered path, so I'm pretty sure what the next three must be. But try as I might, I can't interpret the note to get there. I have 1NE, 2SW, 1E. Is that right?

I have my thirteenth letter in the last column after two ignored moves because they used previously used letters. The next moves are 3 E , 2 SW and 2 SW (a tricky one).
I have just reviewed the previous posts and I see it was suggested the message is 3, 5, 8, 4, 4. I found a 2, 1 instead of the penultimate 4 where the 2 is an abbreviation and the 1 is a letter serving as a number. To be fair I reversed engineered this segment after identifying the obvious last word but it seems to work and I still can’t find a four letter word for that space.
Should I have another look? It does not affect my final grid.

Smithsax, you don't ignore any moves, you just make additional moves if the letter you land on has already been used. That is what had me stuck for ages. The 1st letter of the penultimate 4 letter word is in column 1.

Yes I meant ignore letters not moves.

I have the letter in column 1 (fairly central) then 2 W, I E, I W (repeated letter) then 2 NW to the start of the last word. Would give an abbreviation for clue one which seems to fit.
Probably wrong though.

Your 2W should be 2SW, I think. The author’s name is extra, indicating not a cardinal direction

Smithsax @95, the 2nd and 3rd moves (in my version) are not cardinal.

I am still unable to come up with anything other than gobbledegook for the message. I see that Candledave (28) and Gitto (29) have already discussed the method of setting out the path. If I understand them correctly, it would result in the second move ending at an "O". Is this correct?

What are the directions and lengths of your first two moves, 0pt0? The letter “O” is where the moves start, but it does not appear in the first message
