Gitto is correct that the 5th letter gets revisited, but on the 9th move.

Your 8th move should be 3N. Then 2E (previously used), 3E, 2NE

I have exactly the same as Quisling, and btw your L is correct. As I said earlier I back engineered the cipher by finding a possible route and trying to interpret the unhelpful clarity of it to fit.

After the route defined by Quisling you only have 3 cardinal and 4 non-cardinal moves to make - and you know where you are aiming for.

I have, with some difficulty, plotted a path in the grid, but I am not sure whether it is correct. My path does not use columns 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11. does this sound right?

I'm afraid I don't think that is right 0pt0. Mine may be wrong given the trouble I've had, but I've got something plausible that has about 15 letters used from those 5 columns
