Could someone help me parse the wordplay in 16. I’ve got the answer and superfluous word; just can’t see a wordplay that is convincing. Thanks.

The meaning of 'lets' may be unexpected.

Ribersk, first 2 letters are an abbreviation (in Chambers with .) Next 4 are anagrammed from a word in the clue.

I've done it and enjoyed it but not sure whether to draw in the path.
It says "forming a path" so I guess we don't actually draw it?

I'd say that the path is too complex to be shown. Highlighting the right entries is prima facie evidence that you found the right path.

Iratus, is the use of “and” archaic? “Lets” seems to be a tenuous definition for the five-letter French word that I’ve got on the outside. I think my reading could work, but it’s a bit shaky and is lacking certain indicators.

Interesting puzzle. Am I correct that we don’t have to plot the “conversion” in the grid, but rather fill the central square and highlight? Would be a total mess otherwise.

Thanks.

Oof! Gridfills fairly straightforward, first part of the endgame completed but I must've slipped up somewhere as I've come acropper on the final part. Will have to return to this tomorrow!

The sense of "lets" is hinted at in Chambers under the 5-letter word, but not given directly. The two-letter word is listed.
