17 is a female editor I had never heard of, but it's also what could be done to trees, willows in particular.

Thanks chrise, your pointing out my wrong letter has led me to finishing, though alot of speculation and a touch of Bradfords and Wikipedia to boot....
As a general note does anyone else use Bradfords Crossword Dictionary , it's my go to as I prefer to only use Web and this forum if really stuck

Yes I use Bradfords — my copy so well used needs some TLC!
