Oh, I see what your hint means. I assume it's not Stephen, the Jewish Chronicle one!

Chrise: the Ed in 17 is akin to the one in 7 rather than the one in 15.

I thought I might have to fold on this but I applied the rule of Paul which is the solving tends to get easier as you go on. I have about 4 left.

I have an answer to 22d but no idea on why any of the clue fits. Don't think I fully understand 20a. Also have an answer for 23a but again no idea from the clue.

Rocky
22 is an insertion of 1 (second letter) in 5. The Morgan is a bit ‘rum’
20a is GK and look inside the named editor.
23 is an anagram and a cryptic definition.

Thanks Rog. How did I miss the anagram? At least my answers were all right.

A certain Morgan is also the former editor of News of the World… the reference to drivel is therefore rather amusing.

OK, all done. Thanks for the hints on here. I do like Paul as a rule but not his finest hour this one. But anyone thinking of bailing I would urge you to press on. After 30 minutes I only had two clues solved. When I got 15a I hit a bit of a roll.

FOI was 3d strangely for quite an obscure word. LOI 18d.

My COD just for its pure Paulness was 8a.

Jono, someone who was admirable during the pandemic as the only media person to consistently try and hold Johnson to account to the point where he wouldn't let any of his cabinet go on his show. But who, either side of that period, has not exactly covered himself in glory at all. In fact has consistently embarassed himself I'd say.

Early start as laddo's swimming lessons have moved from 2pm to 8am. I am not a morning person.

Normally love Paul's setting but confess I'm struggling a bit. Think I'll be grinding this one out while sorting out today's BBQ and avoiding the showers.

Stay cool everyone (in the UK)!

OK, I've picked it up again. Could I have a hint for 24a, please? Is Hastings a person?
