15a: crossers are correct.

Parses as 4 (a 5 with last letter dropped), 3

Thanks geeker.

Got it.

Companion to 2 rather than the other type.

Quite tricky I thought, but some clever referencing, including the name drops in the clues themselves.

I suspect some may get pedantic about the accuracy of one element of 3d (even Chambers says “usually” ???).

Looking at the comments, I suspect that I initially put the solution to 15a in 17a!. Proved wrong by 6d (which I'm never sure how to spell).

Stalled now - I may give up soon. My least favourite compiler, usually.

I reminded that James Harding (referenced in 24d) is not only a former editor of the Times but also co-founded Tortoise Media, who as we all know (thanks to Everyman) now own the Observer.

Your 15a/17a confusion has amused me greatly, chrise. The cap certainly fits in my opinion at least!

I now have an answer for 17 that fits "prune", but I've never heard of the Ed. Is there one?

Chris, in that instance Ed. is the job of the individual not their name.

No, I'm giving up. 7d is another ridiculously obscure Ed. 4d is pretty obscure too.

Actually, I only have 24a and 18d left (if my 17 is right - I don't understand your hint, jono, so I suspect that it's wrong).
