Good grief...I had to fix my answer to 25, having written in a geekish but wildly incorrect solution based on conic sections ("elliptic"). 🤣

[Don't use the app so can't rely on the tick]

I had made exactly the same mistake, and then forgot I had never properly parsed it. Thanks for the alert.

Interesting stuff - A quick visit to IMDB shows there are films titled 1a,11a also 8d (it gets a rating of 1.6 😂) also 17a and, naturally, a few called 25a, then probably the most well known 3d,26a - there's even a Woody Allen film 7d,12d but his is plural so probably doesn't count. Then there's one called 10a and, at least 2 called 23d, a few called 12d and, believe it or not, a film titled 16d,4d! I was really hoping there would be one named 14d but that, alas, no 😥

I'm sure these are just a coincidence as there are so many films and only so many catchy titles - still, it was fun trawling through them.

Brendan, 14 could work as a film title. Maybe a "chick flick" (excuse the expression) of sorts. 😬I can also imagine a fantasy, sci-fi or horror pic entitled "The (14)".

I found this hard, harder than yesterday's Harpo for me, but I always struggle with Paul.

I've got all the answers now thanks to comments here, but can't patse 23D. Is the flower hot?

Thanks for any help

Hi Minty,

23d - This one puzzled me for a while - it's an old cryptic favourite - look at at the homophone/reportedly of the answer and think what it does exactly 'over a mountain' and then look again at 'flower':-)

All filled in, but several unparsed. Puzzled by geeker's @10 - the only word I can get to fit the crossers is the conic. Is this wrong?
If I have 21a right, it's an odd clue.

[Going out now, so won't be able to respond until much later
