I've got everything but 15a. That is if my answer to 7d is right. A surname also held by an old female Hollywood star which makes the fourth letter in 15a an N. Any help appreciated.

Hi Lucertola,

15a - 5 letter word for "particular" (as in 'fussy') minus its first letter/"non-starter".

7d doesn't end in N I'm afraid - the "old detective" was one of a pair that were very popular in the 70's - 7d's partner's name is a "smaller residence than 27a"

I got into the theme backwards, from 23d! It gave me 13,20, which I haven't bothered to parse fully.

Took me a while to see, but 13,20 is two final letters outside a phrase that parses 3,2,3,5
