In Response to (Gitto)
Kindred, my post @ 39 may help.

Thanks - I have no idea what I've done or why it works, but tinkering (in a sensible way) with the bits that didn't fit has somehow made it fit the answer I was looking for. I now need to try to do the encoding properly.

Have now reverse-engineered the cipher key and it works. Need to recheck my extra letters from the clues though!

Re #78 -
28a is indeed a horrible clue; IMO mainly because of a bad definition - the answer to be entered doesn't directly 'create an impression' in any sense that I'm familiar with (and I've done some of both in my time) - however, Mrs. Bradford disagrees and allows it, so there we go.

.....but even as I write this grumble the most impressive - and incidentally impressed - 'Illustrated London News' comes to mind....not 28a'd, but using a closely analogous process

Maybe 28a is actually a work of genius after all!

And there was me earlier bouncing about on a bicycle to escape the police cars...

In the absence of checking letters at the bottom of the grid I'm struggling with 29 & 30 Across clues. Hints if you please.

Apologies if I am being dim: grid is completed and missing letters identified. Bars added to enclose cyphertext (a new concept for me..).

Can someone just validate what "in clue order" means: is that just reading down the clues Across then Down? TIA
