26a was explained in posts 12 and 13, I didn't know the word, but got it.

23 synonyms (both 3 letters) for 'firm' and 'upset' [reversed] around a 4 letter word for someone profligate.
17 synonym for 'flourish' (7 letters) [around first letter of...] and remove a letter from the last word.

Dylan, sorry. Another senior moment. I do have 26a, but as has been pointed out, there is an earlier hint.

All done except 21d. I'm sure the answer I have is correct (the other two possibilities look unpromising). Definition fine, omitted letter fine, first half of working fine. The last three letters seem to derive from the last four words, but how?

Gitto, I am in the same place as you. I assume that the first 7 letters are needed - but just can't see how it works. Him indoors is setting up all sorts of spreadsheets but the outcome is always garbled nonsense.

All done and endgame complete, but struggling still with 16a. Only missing the letter that goes in the unched cell, which I've assumed reasonably confidently based on the likely matching definition, but a nudge as to the parsing would be appreciated.

Lovely puzzle
