All finished, very enjoyable BUT there are still a couple I haven't solved and a couple more where I can't see the full wordplay. I know the clue types in every case.

1d Not solved, I'm missing the 2 unchecked letters
9d Not solved, can see a bit but not all of the wordplay. Just the unch missing

29d and 39a Pretty sure that I know what their intersecting letter is and can see some of both their wordplays but not enough to be certain.

Grateful for any non-spoilerish hints or happy to wait until later in the week.

9d - expresses means ejects
29d - check the definition of the 4 letter word in the cryptic
39a - has an extra word in it

Gitto - there aren’t necessarily an even number of each type of clue

Split the clues into pairs and if the first pair is of type 1 and 2 for example, then that gives you a B; if they were 4 and 5, it would be a T and so on as set out in the middle of the preamble.

39a is not a missing word clue

I think I've finished, all but one letter. I can't parse 24, although I (think) I know what it must be. The not-the-chap things to be highlighted are a bit of a stretch, but I (think) have them, nicely paired.

Thanks, gitto. I award myself a 'doh!' for both 39a and 29d. I did have the correct intersection letter but just couldn't see the full wordplay - obvious now!

All done apart from the unch in 22a, which by my reckoning is a type 5 answer. Without intending to give too much away is the sum of the answer 181?

Don’t get the maths but 22a is a hidden so that should help
