Adeano, 41d is an alternate letter hidden answer and the first four letters are the definition. 'Fit' as in 'ready'. I'm afraid I can't help with the forgotten lines.

Adeano. Dont want to give too much away but the forgotten lines are not lines making up a letter. They are all of the same type. If you have some you will find the others.
I found the last one quite difficult to spot.

I hoped I was wrong, as that’d be a bit vague. I’ll have another go at applying my other sort of “line” to those two!

I have completed the grid and instructions but the parsing of 24a still eludes me. I know which type of clue it is and the answer, but cannot fathom the wordplay. Any hints would be welcomed

Finally finished after not getting much chance to look at over Christmas. Enjoyed it, other than the Hardy clue, which is ridiculous.

Can't quite nail down 39a. The clue seems to work fine without adding the extra word and I can't see where you would add the extra word and it still makes sense?

SH - In 39a the extra word goes after the third word of the clue; it stands alone, not incorporated into another word. I felt this was the weakest of the category 2 clues.

Thanks Will, makes sense now. Weak as you say, given the first 2 words do actually mean the answer and the new first four words don't really.

The new first four words are in Chambers with the appropriate definition so think it works pretty well
