Thanks Chris. And another note (twice the length of that one) would also work!

In that case I have mis-remembered the Latin first declension plural endings...puellae, puellae, puellas, puellarum, puellis, puellis... was drummed into me.

You're right, jigjag. I was thinking of emeritus rather than emerita.

Jigjag, Orson

I was forced to do Latin at Grammar School which probably explains why I took the `maths, physics, chemistry` option for `A` levels! I now appreciate that a knowledge of Latin has its uses.

Hope you`re keeping well Jigjag - I`m looking forward to the end of the football season and the start of County Cricket!

Keeping very well thanks and hope you are too.

I did the same A levels as you, and Latin to O level. Yes, it has its uses, in crosswords mainly.

Not a great football season for us, lets hope we can avoid the drop. Certainly hope to see a lot of County cricket. I might join Lancs, though Worcs is my team. Easy for me to get to Old Trafford.

Thanks Chris, I just saw that one, and for once I spotted the theme. Rather a lot of obscure references though

I didn't like this clue from today's Telegraph Toughie:

Academic wanting you and I to find artist’s place (6)

The clue works equally well, if not better, with you and me. For a while I thought there must be a reason for the bad grammar.

BBC Radio 5 Live: just heard Brendan O'Neill, chief politics writer of 'Spiked', interviewed about 'Partygate'.

'A lot of people purposefully broke lockdown rules'.

I think he meant 'purposely'.

I was surprised to hear a former Communist being so sympathetic towards Boris. I don't mind admitting that I too think resignation would be disproportionate.
