May I humbly beg that for such posts you tell us what the clue is? I thank you in anticipation.

Orson, the second clue is given on my post just up above. I'm out just now, so can't give the one mentioned earlier.

Orson, both clues are given if you read the earlier posts. I rather like the fiddle clue, it works for me

How far back should I look? I gone back to post 136 and I cannot see any clues to the ones mentioned: viz, 23a, 1d, 10a and 26a.

I know sometimes it is possible to stop seeing things in front of one's nose when one has looked for too long. Malone quotes a clue at 136 but I don't know if that's one of those I've mentioned above.

Orson, my post at 162 carries on the discussion of today's homophones.

I know people in your part of the world stress all 3 syllables in words like violin, violet, violent etc.

I think I would pronounce violin as you do in formal speech, but usually I do say vile-inn.

I suppose the Times can authorise this in a crossword.

There was a clue recently with the homophone keto/Quito. I really liked that one; for one thing it's so different from the usual fodder. The fiddle clue, I didn't feel too strongly about one way or the other. It's not great, but it didn't spur me to post a gripe here either. The floor/flaw clue from last week really riled me up though.

Mathprofrockstar, I too quite like keto/Quito. I deliberately didn't start a conversation about the Vile Inn, as I felt I was moaning too often... but I was happy to see that others disliked it. I agree about Floor/Flaw and that one's even worse because it's a repeat offender - and riles me up every time!
