Very funny – thanks, HotelWhiskey (#49) re 22A. Very neat, & you’re obviously right, but I saw the answer as what you might say about someone not yet fashionable/well-known: “*** ***?”

I loved the theme (I'm another boomer-musician) and was sad that BD & JM weren’t in there.

I’ve finished it, but still can’t parse 6A or 23A – any explanations? & I don’t understand the last 3 letters of 13D.

I think 9A & 22A are my joint CODs.

Thanks, all.

Hi barryc
Country Joe and the Fish, anyone? I remember the fish chorus, starting "Give us an F"...

There isn't a 6a. 6d is an anagram, a cricket reference.
23a uses a criminal's slang for a safe, around A and "git" as an imperative.

oh, and the lasr 3 letters of 13 are an action that could loosely be a "bound"

Thanks, Chrise. Very good.
And I meant that I couldn't parse 8A.
Never heard the burglar slang for a safe.
Thanks

8a is a 4 letter word for "tilt" inside a 4 letter word for "does". Very misleading - probably my favourite clue.

I really enjoyed this puzzle but probably because I am a certain age. I can imagine younger folk being a bit flummoxed, especially by the 11, 2, 3 clue, which they have managed to jumble. Should be 11, 3, 2. Finished it in record time for me, despite the typical Grauniad mistake.
