Doh!

As ever, it's obvious when it's pointed out. But mant thanks. I can stop scratching my head and go to bed. I think I'll listen to some 11,3,2 to help me sleep

No problem we've all been there.

I feel a bit dense because I'm a musician myself and I always thought my knowledge of music and musicians was pretty good but I have never heard of 11,3,2 - seriously!!

Thanks to Simon for recommending 24,779 - I'll keep it for a mid-week treat:-)

I agree this was a lovely puzzle. I was 12 in London in 1969 so wasn't aware of 10 25 at the time, but there are a couple of very good films or documentaries (either of performances of discussion of the event) and of course songs (eg CSNY and JM) to tell us why it was important.
I'm sorry Paul couldn't find space for the first of those, or for the wonderful JC's classic performance, but a very enjoyable puzzle and reminder of some good acts.

I'm sure I'm being stupid but scratching my head in the NW (I worked out fairly early that 11, 2, 3 should be 11, 3, 2). I can't figure out 1d, 8a or 12a, any hints would be appreciated please? I'm also puzzled by 20a, I've got two answers that fit (different choices of first word) but I cannot parse either.

Thanks to Paul and to friends here!

1d slangy expression for "tasty" around a short period of time
8a look again at "does". the definition is a container
12a i don't see where the first 3 letters come from, but i think the first word of the clue is the definition
yes, there are 2 possible first words for 20, but only one of them indicates a preference

12a the first three letters are a reversal of a word for wedge. Defn as in ‘he’s a somebody in advertising’ (or some such thing)

Many thanks Chrise. They're all obvious now, of course.

Me neither, in fact with putting and wedge I was convinced it was a golf clue!

I was half looking for a good answer but I also had Harry Potter's owl stuck in my head!
