Hi Ixion,

27a - I'm puzzled by this as well. The best I've come up with so far is that it's a 3 letter anagram/"preposterous" of a synonym for "trick" inside/"bores" a 3 letter word for "stupid".

You're right Brendan, except preposterous indicates a reversal not an anagram. "Literally inverted" is one of the defs of preposterous in Chambers.

Ixion, I wonder if you could share your wisdom about 12D, please.

I'm finding this hard-going - I've only got 1ac to give any idea of how things are changed, and it's not helping much

dylan, 12D - oddball relates to an anagram, so the first 3 words indicate most of that, and the subsequent two words provide the final letter that is needed.
