It's very confused. I checked online that a dog licence was 7s 6d and found both spellings. The article below spells it both ways within a line or two!

When I was in Canada I corrected a Medicine Hat salesperson about his sign "Stationary on Special" and explained to him that "stationary" means "not moving".
His response: "That's why it's on special, because it ain't moving". Collapse of stout Brit.
