Welcome to our weekly competition to compose a cryptic clue, to be judged by your fellow contestants.

You may enter as many clues as you like and everyone is welcome. Feel free to explain your clue if you think it will help or to ask another poster to explain theirs.

Entrants should vote for their favourite clue - please include the post number and please also refrain from commenting on entries until voting has finished. The entry with the most votes wins and its composer sets next week's competition.

Your clue should be posted by 11:00 am on Friday 27th March, when voting opens. Voting closes at 8:00 pm. The setter has the deciding vote in the event of a tie and may tweak the rules if necessary. The setter will declare the winner and award an online prize.

This week’s challenge is:

LICENSE (7)

Have fun!

A big win at golf for a dog? (7)

(In a match a win "7 and 6" - i.e. 7 holes up with 6 remaining - used to be called a "dog license", as that was what one cost at the time.)

@pedagogue

May we have a ruling on your word? In American usage it serves as both verb and noun but in UK English it is solely a verb. What is your intention?

Hi!
Thanks nemo,
I intended the word to be used as both a noun and a verb to increase the clueing potential i.e. the US usage.
I'm sorry to all UK entrants who are now fuming at me - I realise (realize) that I need to organise (organize) my thoughts and I apologise (apologize) - I have nothing to add in my defence (defense).
