sorry sunray, I've just got back.
Is it 20d you haven't got (your 'tariffman' would be a synonym for 22d)?

drxx, I got 20d, 22d and 35a.

(We do not have VAT yet but we love to put tariffs on others)

Still struggling with a few. 7d, 19a, 16d, 33a etc.

OK sunray, here are a few hints for those -

7d A + two short words for 'vain' (or an area people are excluded from, 2-2...) after QU - it's a board made up of people.

19a Z + regular letters from 'exonerated' (minus the first one which is extra) returned.

16d 'HA(s)' the 's' is extra - following French word for steps (= 'actions') for a Turkish title.

33a def is 'linked verse' from a very famous German composer returned (minus his first letter, which is extra).

I think I'm nearly there. Got a few issues with parsing and extra letters. Are there extra letters in 14a and 36a? The one that's really got me stumped is 37a. I have all the crossing letters. It looks like an anagram but can I get to a word that makes sense? Nope!

Ah, finally twigged 37a.

granama1 - There's an extra 'g' in 14a (a 4 letter synonym for 'wind') and there's an extra 'L' in 36a - (a 4 letter synonym for 'depended' / reclined).

I sometimes think we actually need three Fora now:

one on Answerbank, where people smugly congratulate themselves on completing the puzzle

one here, discussing the intricacies of the end-game

and another here, for duffers like me, who still haven't got the completed grid.

Still stuck on 34ac - I seem to have 3 vowels in the checked spaces

28d - is this a famous drug? If so, why?
