Oh thx merenz. I have made a fundamental error somewhere. I thought the letters of 'chandelier' went in the bottom row?

Nothing that can’t be unpicked monkjunk. You need more letters (18 in total) for the larger object, so 8 in front of the word you have. Googling the plot will reveal it for you

Have absolutely loved this puzzle, apart from the bottom row placement.

For my bottom row, I found X went under 42d as an abbreviation in Chambers, which still leaves me with an unplaced i.
But the i could go there too, in which case does 34d take the X?

Mandyrob. Have you got all/most of the removed letters from the down clues? The first three words are synonyms for a word, the last three for a different word. These synonyms are a big hint to the theme
