If you are viewing the structure from an angle, you will be able to see two faces of parts of the structure. The correct angle is not from NNE, but you are close.

Thanks everyone. You may be amused to know I had found Maya Angelou by adding three letters in third row conventional view. That has wasted a lot of time but increased my knowledge of MA. How clever of the setter.

Can't get a handle on 24 , 28 or 29.

And Maya Angelou is a red herring?!?

woodlouse, 23 is neither of those.

28 is normal, three letter word for story, with end of calf inside. Last two words are def

29 has a misprint in the last word.

23 Durr - got it now

but 29 I have ?L?REN, which leads to nothing in quinapalus . Can't see that any of the relevant down clues can be wrong?

it's a name woodlouse, think of possible anagrams of the obvious word missing its head and google them?
