Good evening, Rusty!
Well, another win at Queen's for Andy Murray!
I really thought that Raonic had it in the bag half way through the second set......but then Murray rallied and played splendidly.
I am a little at a loss though as to why he is praised so much for his win at Queens..... there was no very serious competition?
Eastbourne next for the Ladies......and then Wimbledon fortnight coming up.
We enjoyed our visit with the family......baby has suddenly become a little person... I love it when that happens!
BB has been inspired by the tennis......we were playing swing ball in the garden with him - we had to work for our lunch!
Have you had a good Fathers' Day? How was your outing?

Good evening, Elle!
Your day sounds fine!
Mine, too.
I did not see Murray winning.
Maybe he is News!
I did notice yesterday that Tim Peake came down to Earth and the report was all about him. The other two who travelled with him got barely a mention.
Laura Robson is going to miss Eastbourne.
Her leg is injured.
Lizzie has won her race, zero publicity aside, she praised her team to the heavens. Pity she cannot take them to Rio.
I saw my sons and several of the young ones today.
A good day!

Elle, I think you're being slightly unfair on Queen's - and Andy Murray! The tournament is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the world and Andy Roddick said the courts were 'arguably the best in the world'. Previous champions include John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Rafa Nadal, Pete Sampras... I think the tennis players have so many tournaments and events these days, they can't all fit them all in. Queen's is sandwiched between the French Open and Wimbledon, and some players attend because they see it as a 'warm up' for Wimbledon, the other grass event. Although Federer and Djokovic didn't compete at Queen's - I don't think they ever do - there were other, decent players in this year's tournament. As well as Raonic, we also had Wawrinka, Kyrgios, Gasquet, Cilic, Tomic... Andy Murray, as no 2 in the world, will take on most people - if they enter!

Hi, Rusty!
I am glad that you had a nice day with your family - good to see your sons and catch up with the young ones.
My husband was presented with recent photos of both children, which are now in pride of place on the piano!
A pity about Laura Robson...I have been reading that her thigh injury may prevent her from being fit in time for Wimbledon.
She has been dogged by injury.
Good for Lizzie!
And thinking of Kettering......
My daughter has just sent photos of the new puppy they have chosen today. He is a Golden Retriever and will be available to be rehomed on July 20th.
They are all so excited! especially the two boys!
Oops! just seen the time....must ring my cousin ( my turn )........

Malone, I apologise - I didn't mean to upset you.

Hello, Elle!
It is not warm here!
I got photographs too, but I have no piano...oh, dear!
A pity for Laura. Hope she can recover in time for Wimbledon.
I was looking forward to seeing her.
I am delighted for Lizzie.
She got the last seat on the plane tonight, wherever she is going.

Elle, I was disappointed and saddened, rather than upset, by your post. Andy Murray's achievement today, the first person to win Queen's five times, is surely worth celebrating? As Britons, we should be proud of results like this, especially in a sport where we have lagged behind much of the world for so long.

Hi, Rusty!
It is raining here! What a strange end to the day.
Earlier it was very warm indeed, and a lovely sunny day. My daughter even had her fan on to cool down her lounge!
Ah , the piano! We inherited it! When we bought our house, the piano had been left here, abandoned.
So we kept it, had it tuned, and in time both the girls learned to play.
And now....well, where else would we put our photos?
All is well with the family up north - my cousin and I have had our weekly hour -long chat!
I am enjoying my new book by the Eggheads competitor!
Did you look up that book that appealed to you about the Somme? Written by someone called Montefiore, I think you said?
There was a Moses Montefiore long ago?
Now where did I get that from?

Malone, I find nothing to like or applaud in Andy Murray's often rude, abrasive and childish manner.
I can commend his tennis prowess. I have no call to like his character.
Were I to find him a pleasanter individual, I might feel more like celebrating his win.

Hello, Elle!
It is cold and wet here.
I had heating on, and a fleece!
Yes, I have my eye on two books on the Somme.
Will have a look during the week to see shall I purchase any.
Hugh Sebag Montefiore.
The name Sebag Montefiore rings bells with me, but if I had to suggest why, I would have guessed from a Jewish banking family.
Probably completely wrong. But, it is a "known" name in the furthest parts of my mind!
I do not ken Moses of that ilk?

Hi, Rusty!
I have just Googled and come up with this....
Sir Moses Haim Montefiore,1st Baronet, FRS (1784-1885 ) was a British financier and banker, activist, philanthropist and Sheriff of London.
And yes, you have remembered correctly from somewhere that Montefiore is a Jewish banking family!
I wonder if Hugh Sebag Montefiore is a descendent of this family?
Good hunting with sorting out the choice of books about the Somme.
I appreciated Lyn Macdonald's book on such. I liked the slant she gave to her (history) books with the enclosures of letters between soldiers and their loved ones, plus diary entries.
(Sorry it's so cold!)

Hello, Elle!
All very interesting!
Wonder how I have a Jewish banking family rattling around in my head!
I "think" Hugh's book on the Somme may be not unlike Lyn MacDonald's book, in that he uses letters etc from the soldiers of that time to tell his story. Hope so.
Maybe Sister Mary Stollard and Eccles cakes will get a mention!
But no rush to buy.
I have one here on the Carl Bridgewater murder that I have not started yet.
Now, back to the golf!
