Yes Elle, even though Monet did some portrait paintings, I much prefer Manet's style; He was more daring, ahead of his time, thus not that popular with the Academy who often banned him from the Salon.

Is anyone having Outlook and Hotmail problems?
I cannot receive or send emails..........it has been like this off and on for two or three days -and today I cannot access Hotmail at all.
Does anyone know the cause of the problem?

I don't know much about Manet apart from the famous one. I'm really boring, I like landscapes that are figurative. I think most modern art has a capital F. In Portugal I saw a modern art exhibition- one of the pieces (and it really was; it had a pretentious explanation alongside it) was 5 or 6 different lengths of wood leaning against the wall.

An artist friend gave me a book called "Why your five year old could not have done that". Inside there are plenty of examples of modern art, and quite often the legend reads "even if your five year old could have done that, it would not have the same meaning behind it", Chortle.

Yes, I've often wandered round art exhibitions where some of the exhibits look like splurges brought home from playgroup....usually with a pretentious explanation alongside!
