I've just listened to several versions on Google , Chris, but you are not going to like as they all say that pentameter should be pronounced as pent- AMeter.
for example.....
http://www.macmillandictionary.com/pronunciation/british/pentameter

My particular beef is about the pronunciation of kilometre...
I would pronounce it as kilo- meter NOT kilom -eter!

Yes, elle, but what's the justification? I agree about kilo metre - it's illogical to pronounce it kilom-eter (as pent-ameter!)

I don't quite agree that the macmillandictionary etc is pronouncing
the word as pent-AMeter.

What I hear is pen (soft) TA (accentuated) meter (soft)
the TA is what I call the 'accent tonique' (don't know word in English)

What is strange is that this accentuated part varies from English to French - we tend to accentuate the meter part of the word, ie

pentaMETRE and kiloMETRE

Sorry, Chris, perhaps I didn't make myself clear? I am agreeing with you! both about penta - meter and kilo- metre!
but also just offering the apparently "officlal" offering from Google!

Pigale, I think I'm hearing something different from you!
I would stress the first part of the words - PENTA meter and KILOmetre

Hi everyone,

Hello Elle and Doglet,

Not long to wait now before we see the young ospreys - looking forward to it.

You mention crows, starlings and pigeons Doglet - Here starlings are considered a nuisance particularly when a flock of them land on a cherry tree and eat out all the fruit in an hour! Crows are also pests to my mind, they are a protected species BUT one can get a license to destroy the nests at a certain times of the year, just for one day, mainly to keep the population down.

On the other hand, I have two pairs of wood pigeons who nest in my garden every year and I don't mind them; However the village centre has a lot of the common pigeons and there again the town council try to keep their number down.

Morning, Doglet and Pigale! and anyone else watching the ospreys......
It seems that a crack and a small hole have appeared in one of the osprey eggs!
A close watch is being kept in case chick Number One is about to hatch.......

The lovely weather has broken here on the London /Kent borders. We are having rather heavy rain and colder temperatures.

Hi Elle,

Just had a look but Lassie has now settled down and its impossible to see anything at present - It's almost a permanent close watch if we want to see chick No 1 hatch live!

Rain forecast for this afternoon, temps still reasonable but without much sun it feels less warm.

Are you keeping busy?

Hello, Pigale!
Have a look at today's blog - there are some photos posted up there.
I have kept checking in , not wanting to miss the hatching , but I shall be going out later - it is bound to happen whilst I am away!
Yes, I have rather a busy week. It started off relatively quietly but is escalating in hecticness!!
