Hi Ros,

I had a look at all the other webcams on offer and, quite frankly, I don't see any interest in any of them apart from the ospreys; it's possible that a red squirrel may appear from time to time, and I could just about make out birds flying on the Montrose site, but nothing fantastic really - As for the Falls of Clyde I, like you, fail to see any point to it.

Yes, Pigale, I was very fortunate today! Not only did I see the crack in the egg but later saw the third chick trying to get out!
I also saw the other two chicks being fed prior to that!
It was very exciting seen "in the flesh" so to speak!

Good morning!
I was fortunate enough to see all three chicks being fed by Lassie, a few minutes ago.
Another second and I would have missed it as she has now settled down on top of them again.

Hi, Pigale, Doglet, Ros.... et al
I went to see the "Dutch Flowers" exhibition at the National Gallery this week.
I wasn't very enamoured.....obviously all the paintings were skilfully done, but I'm afraid that they just didn't appeal to me.
Also, there appeared to be a theme where an insect or bird was shown in the picture.......and the birds were dead!
Very macabre!
Has any one else seen this showing?
Any comments?

Good Morning from wet/thundery France !

Sorry Elle, I missed your post yesterday somehow.

I don't know the exhibition you refer to, obviously, but I doubt that it would have been of interest to me - I am not a great lover of paintings depicting flowers; I like landscapes, and real preference goes to pictures showing scenes with people;

You mention dead birds - In some masterpieces of 18th/early 19th Century, there were quite a lot of paintings showing hunting scenes sometimes the hunter, but always with some dogs surrounding the dead game, fruit of a successful hunt. Do you know what I mean?

Good morning, Pigale!
A not very nice one here , either - although it is dry. so far.
Yes, I do know what you mean regarding beagles surrounding the "hunt" for instance , but at least in that sort of instance there is some point to it....whereas in these Dutch Flower paintings, the dead birds were arranged around the vase!
And the painting would be entitled "Flowers in a Vase with Dead Birds"!!!!!
Yuk!
I like Impressionism , and also both Pre- and Post- best.
How about you?

Yes, me too Elle, except that the 'pre' bit goes back as far as late 17th and 18th Century. (Not just the French painters but also the Italian school etc).

I think that 'Flowers in a Vase with Dead Birds is rather simplistic and I agree that there does not seem to be a relation between the two subjects !

Since my last post, sky has brightened up somewhat and sun trying to come out, but still close. We are supposed to have yet more thunderstorms!

Wouldn't want to see a picture of dead birds with anything. Don't like many flower pintings, either. Possibly the Monets!
