Hi, Rusty!
Wow, that is quite a journey that your friends are undertaking on their bikes!
How many miles do they expect (roughly) to cover?
What sort of accommodation will they be staying in, en route...pubs...youth hostels.....B & Bs......?
I wish them well.
We have much heavier rain now...but fortunately, for the dog's sake, still no thunder.
So at least the garden is getting an effective watering.
I am not venturing out again today.
Crosswords done...book finished...husband and dog asleep......
The cat and I are looking round to see what we can get up to......!
I expect to hear from BB soon, when he gets home from his Beavers' trip!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, it's quite a trip.
I think they hope to average 90 miles each day.
I got told about it a couple of months ago, but did not hear about the stops on route.
They are flying back.
My pal is in the orange top.
He is a former Scottish cycling champ.

Still a nice day here, but chilly!

Hi, Rusty!
Thank you for the link about your friend's' cycling trip for charity.
It is indeed a big undertaking.
Yes, I found your friend in his orange top!
It will be interesting to follow their journey as they progress through the four countries.
All the best to them!
I have tried to phone my daughter , but there is a message saying her phone is not working.......odd!
I shall try texting, and if no luck, will ring my son-in-law!
She is obviously okay though, as I have received photos of the Night Walk and the Beavers camp , via email.
It must be a technical hitch!

Hello, Elle,
My pal and me have been friends for almost 60 years.
He's one of the best!
They update the Just Giving page with their progress as they go.
They loved Ireland!
Could be your daughter's phone has no signal.
That is not uncommon from time to time.
If you knew who her phone is with, (o2, EE, etc), you could check on line to if the signal is down in her area.

Good evening, Rusty!
Yes, it is nice to have friends of such long duration!
I have known one of my friends since we were toddlers together......and we still keep in touch, even though she now lives in New Zealand.
Were you and Lionel at school together?
My daughter has texted.
She did not know why her phone was sending out that message ....she expected it to go to Answerphone, as she had it on "Silent" because she was sleeping!
She didn't get to bed till 5.20am!
The Walk went well...I shall hear more about it when I speak to her tomorrow.

Hello, Elle!
Li and me went to different schools.
We lived quite a distance apart.
We met through cycling.
We were in different clubs, but the clubs often met up on the club runs, and at the races.
There were a few of us in different clubs who became pals.
There was a ladies cycling club, too.
And several marriages between the clubs!
I would not know how to put my phone on "silent"!
It is either on, or switched off.
Glad to hear your daughter got on well.
Hope there are no blisters!

Hi, Rusty!
I have just been talking to my cousin.
It is raining up there, too.
You must have been in your mid teens, then, when you met up with Lionel, and you became friends through the cycling club meetings?
I seemed to spend a lot of my free time playing tennis, when I was younger.
We played most days......even in the rain!
And we did a lot of hiking, too, especially in the Lake District.
I have always liked to walk!
I guess being active has stood me in good stead throughout the...... er......"advancing years"!
( I may be just a tad slower now!)
I put my phone on "Silent" if I am in a meeting or similar....it will still vibrate and alert me, but not cause a disturbance then.
I never switch it off.

Hello, Elle!
Had a bit of rain here, too.
Just watched "Millionaire".
There is a lady from Oldham going along nicely, but won't see her again until next week.
Yes, I joined the cycling club when I was 15.
At first Li was the enemy, because he rode for a different club!
Just local rivalry.
But we became good pals.
Once you start racing you meet folk from all the different clubs.
There is great camaraderie in the cycling world.
There is "do not disturb" on my phone.
Wonder is that "silent" mode?

Hi, Rusty!
I haven't had my television on at all today.
I have two week's episodes of "Casualty" yet to watch.....
And still haven't seen the film of Vera Britain's "Testament of Youth", which I recorded way back.
Nor Thomas Hardy's "Far from the Madding Crowd", which I had also wanted to watch.
I do this......I record programmes I intend to see......and then do not get around to watching them!
Very often, the programmes pile up.....and I end up deleting them unviewed!
I don't know about the "Do not disturb" sign on your phone?
My "tried and trusted" very ancient implement has a heading "Profiles"...and "Silent" is listed under that along with "General/ Discreet/ Loud/ and My Style" headings.
I have no idea what "My Style" is!

Good morning, Elle!
It is dreich here!
I think I may have read "Far From the Madding Crowd".
"Madding" is an unusual word. I just looked it up in Collins.
I record programmes too, and delete them.
You are not alone!
Mu phone is usually on, but I always switch it off when I go to dentist etc.
Mind you the waiting room usually has many folk typing away on their phones!
But often I don't have my phone with me, anyway.
Wonder how many accidents have happened to folk walking down the street engrossed in their phone?
A fair few, I'd say!
