Hello, Elle!
It's a fine day here, too.
I've no plans today, after I go for a wee walk.
Yes, I did my puzzle on-line today.
17a, 26a, and 19d, are new words to me.
I liked 24d, probably because I had heard of the opera from which the answer came!

Hi, Rusty!
I have a quiet weekend ahead , too.
No family coming, as our daughter is doing her Night Walk tonight.....and BB is going away for a sleepover with Beavers.
I believe they are staying in huts, though, rather than tents!
He is going to phone me tomorrow evening to tell me all about it.
I haven't reached the clues that you mention, yet.
I've started systematically from the top left hand corner.
I'll get back to you later on those.....

Update, Rusty!
I have now done all that I can of my puzzle.
I thought it quite a nice one?
Saturdays' are usually easier for me than the weekday ones!
I could not do 21a: Asian rhino has cat leave Mexican state (4)
Y?A?
I have no ideas at all here?
And I could not parse either 27a: danseuse = performer (def); or 24d: grin = smile (def)
I know you said that you liked this last, because you knew the opera...but I'm afraid I don't..... and I have no thoughts on this.
Yes, 19d: pandanus is a new word for me , too.
Help. please?

Did you go for your walk?
It really is beautiful out.

Hi elle
In 21, "rhino" is a slang term for currency.

Hello, Elle!
Just in from my walk!
I knew the Mexican state!
Yucatan! Remove cat and you have "yuan", Chinese money!
I forget the clues, but the opera is Wagner's "Lohengrin".
Remove whatever word is in the clue for "lo", the female is a "hen" and you have "grin".
27, is "sues" reversed inside "Dane".
I think the setter used Hamlet for the Dane?

Hi, Rusty!
I have just come indoors.
We have been sitting out in the garden, reading.
What a lovely, warm afternoon!
Thank you for your help with the crossword
I did not know either the Mexican state, or the currency.......so I was on a hiding to nothing there!
Yes, "Hamlet" was used for "Dane" but I totally missed that.
Oh, I like "Lohengrin" - that is a very good clue!
On the credit side I did know about Marianne and Antigone!
So I am not completely hopeless!
The crossword is all finished now.
Thank you again!

Thanks , Chris!
I did know about "rhino".....it was also in a fairly recent clue.
But that didn't help me here!

Hello, Elle!
I knew Yucatan but not Yuan, but Collins did.
Lohengrin was a Knight of the Holy Grail.
I knew of "Marianne", but not "Antigone".
We all know different bits and pieces!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, that's very true - we each have our own particular strengths!
I have been watering my potted fuchsias......they are very dry....it is an ongoing task......
Tomorrow's promised rain will be most welcome!
Do you know what we can expect on BGT this evening?
I no longer have faith, though, in the pressing of the Golden Buzzer ......or in the judgement of the "Super Fans".
The whole show has become somewhat of a fiasco.

Hello, Elle!
Still nice weather here!
The old pensioner is on tonight!
And I am looking forward to seeing Stavros Flatley again.
The little boy, Lagi, has grown up now, so just wondering what their act will be like.
And I think Michael Flatley has retired, anyway, so their act would maybe be dated.
George Sampson, dancer, is back.
Think he won the second series.
The roller skating brother and sister are back.
I thought they were great when I first saw them.
There is a very funny lad from America called Preacher Lawson.
I struggle to understand his accent, though.
He got rave reviews on AGT.
And little Issy Simpson, the magician, is back.

Hi, Rusty!
I am telling myself just to enjoy the acts as they stand, and not to worry about the judging........as that cannot be trusted
I know Stavros Flatley from a video clip that you sent me....and I well remember young Issy!
I thought she was very good!
And so self -possessed for such a young child.
But how old will she be by now?
I do not think I know the other acts?
Apart of course from the Chelsea Pensioner......who was quite a good singer ...but definitely not winning material.
It will be interesting to see what happens tonight.
