Well 99% convinced. The compiler obviously went out of his way to include two using two clues, no doubt to gull people like me.

Enjoyed this - mostly done. Can anyone help with the parsing of 38A and where the misprint comes from in 2D?

I think the three letters have to be the vertical ones based on the first word of the message.

I am sure it is one, not two, so the message spelt out by the correct letters describes the highlighting.

38a is SERR (press close, with S (society) moving to the back

2dn the definition is PARTI, a group of people

Thanks for that.

Yes, on second thoughts I think you're right about the highlighting.

I'm in the same position as you, rickye.

I find the endgame unsatisfactory, not for the first time this year.

Are we really only supposed to show the relationship between the circle and a diameter? I know the 'correct letter' phrase points to this but it seems very trivial.

Why is 'area' chosen to be part of the circumference when 'nine' would have been more sensible? I too wondered about highlighting 'two' because 'area' is part of the shading.

I also looked for 2root(A*pi) = circumference because of area and pi taking up the circumference.

"radiusone" is a very loose way of saying r=1 if that is what is intended.

Not the normal Listener feeling when you *know* you have the correct answer and nothing else can be right.

Glad of your support emcee. I have gone with radiusone and await the solution in three weeks. The down clues corrections must hold sway and I defer to those who know more about maths and pi than I. As it was pi day and radius one presumably results in pi then it seems sturdy. But all I remember is pi r squared.

I have a different take on this.

I can’t believe that the bottom word is in the circle instead of the number that you might expect for no reason, and I don’t think it would be allowed simply as a trap. Diameter = 2R or R2 , which is one option to highlight in the circle. Because TWO is vertical, highlighting the diameter (R2) then completes a relationship given by this and most of the circle and indicated by the bottom word so that we meet all the criteria in the preamble

So interesting! Deep down I cannot believe that area and two have been put in for no reason.

Sorry, I didn't put that very well. I should have said:
Because of the positioning of TWO, as well as giving R2 (the diameter), it could be taken to mean R squared and therefore along with most of the circle complete the relationship given by the bottom word. It doesn't seem entirely satisfactory to be expected to read TWO in two different ways like this, but to me it seems more satisfactory than the alternative.
