Thanks the 2 of you - that is very clever!!

I'm not happy about the definition in 11dn. STEELER is not in Chambers. Is it a real word meaning "more severe"?

I don't like it either but it fits the word play so it must be ok

Going nicely but wonder if I have erred around 34ac where I have CE-ACE- I see caecal means pouch but wonder if I need chambers 2014.

It's a word for the genus of a sea creature which has its Chamber entry with an -n on the end (you'll find the word there but it doesn't have its own entry) but I can't see the relevance of "pouches".
I've found the the ring of letters and the other six-letter word but they only add up to 34 - where are the other three?

Is it just the three letters that follow the horizontal six-letter word? Seems a bit weak.

Rickeye - tace = part of a plate. Definition is the first two words.
Barretter - RADIUSONE gives the length required in the calculation.
I must admit the significance of the date passed me by!

Is 16ac in chambers, I cannot find it.

Thanks also Unclued. I have radius onc! There is TWO coming down at end of radius which gives the squared bit I feel.
