Last one!
12ac - Think I know the answer but can't parse.
It's a dead actor R?e? and I think "finally tested" is a d. Obvious answer then, but can't reconcile to clue.
Any help??

Thanks for this. I am not sure that I have the real11ac correct but I think it is although I cannot parse it; in any event, if I change the relevant letters of that word in the only way that will make the three down clues remain real words, I get a word of French origin which in is also a name formerly associated with the theme. Am I on the right lines? Also I cannot get 24 down even though I have the crossing letters which I am sure are correct... Thanks for any assistance in advance.

Being pedantic, but it's a description of After Eights rather than mint per se.

8d journalists are the"press" - change the R to L, then put "to" in front.
The song is dedicated to the origninal answer for 11a
11a initial letters of Caught and Posh enclosing what you might call the teacher (backwards)

@sudokulover. I disagree with your parsing of 11A.
Can't see how you get SIR reversed to fit?.

1st two words [def]
one side = IS
initially caught = C
posh English accent = RP (Received Pronunciation)
going around [container]

C+R(IS)P
