When it says the initial letter of each superfluous word in order makes a phrase, is it numerical order or across then down? Thanks

It's the ac's then the downs

Last one unsure about.7 d).have all the letters and 11a. Any hints?

7d: 1st wd superfluous; def. last 2; between, word play divided 2,5 (change the 3rd before entering)
11a: ref. to name of man described in "work", as word means 1st 4 words of clue; last word superfluous (change letters 1, 3 & 5 before entering).

7D first two letters - think bookie's odds in horse racing.
