Thanks for this. I am not sure that I have the real11ac correct but I think it is although I cannot parse it; in any event, if I change the relevant letters of that word in the only way that will make the three down clues remain real words, I get a word of French origin which in is also a name formerly associated with the theme. Am I on the right lines? Also I cannot get 24 down even though I have the crossing letters which I am sure are correct... Thanks for any assistance in advance.

8d journalists are the"press" - change the R to L, then put "to" in front.

Can't see how you get SIR reversed to fit?.
