Can anyone help out (hint-wise of course only) on
19a County police picked up broadcast (9)
I think the letters are C?M?T?I?D
There is NO definition in the clue: pure word-play!

OK, another one, then, possibly easier:
8d 13, say, (4)
I have ?E?E
Again no definition present; the answer to 13a in this puzzle I believe to be "metro".
Any ideas?

Since every other letter is capitalised it guess it's an i, I can see wordplay working if it was C?M?E?L?D?

No, afraid not; if any letter's wrong, it'll be the first one --- but I don't think so!

8d Might it not simply be a homonym for the number 13 in some previous cultures?

Sorry I'm not much help, GK, but I assume you are trying to find words beginning with the same 4 letters.

I have an answer which is really 4,5 rather than 9 but it fits the wordplay exactly.

County - Co
Police - Met
picked up -heard (broadcast as hird)
= come third
or there may be an obsolete word cometherd
