Warning - be very careful entering your answers in the grid online. There is a glitch (particularly in the lower half) which is deleting letters you've entered. My keyboard sounds an alarm each time it happens (maybe they all do?), otherwise I may not have noticed that my answers had been changed.

Anyway, check it carefully before you press submit.

I had a very frustrating time filling in the solutions online, before submitting the puzzle - as I typed the letters in, they kept repeating themselves in the next square, so it took me almost as long to submit the thing as it did to solve it. More Grauniad glitches. Where would we be without them?

Greedy Kite - had to go out for a few hours and driving away was thinking England, France? The first penny dropped and then the second - no it wasn't canary! Thanks for that.

Somewhat worryingly, the 'off-colour' clues gave me no problem.

tl: I have no problem with them. It's just that I find it odd how many men seem to be rather addicted to them (tho' I've "given way" & set some myself occasionally, I admit)!

Hi solvers. Managed to get to the point that only 13A is the one that has me stumped. I have 8 of the 9 specials so I'm assuming this is one of them, unless i've gone wrong somewhere. Would gratefully appreciate any hints . Cheers.

OK forget my plea ! As so often happens the penny dropped. Obvious really! Doh!

That was short - back again! Although my grid is now filled I still have only 8 of the specials ,
(9,1) (28,2) (4,29) (5) (6) (7) (22,24) and (28,23)
Cannot for the life of me see where the 9th is. Sorry if have given too much away by listing the above . If I have please accept my apology!

Maybe you've not noticed you have to change the last letter of 24a, then you have your 9th!
