Your letters are right (though there are two more on the end). I'm surprised you haven't seen 4d - possibly the easiest clue in the puzzle!

Hi Neville,

11a - 4 letter "behind" (in terms of time) then 2 letter "sailors" going around/'touring' A - definition is a literal palace.

4d - "Conifer not" literally "houses" the answer.

Thanks all, I didn't know the palace name which sent me off on the wrong track! All done now.

Once again a really late start and a painful back. I read through all the across clues and didn't get one. Then broke off to help my husband who'd decided to clear the blockages in one of our gutters. Our first real rain since May - so far 18.9mm - yippee. Water butts now full. Gardener's delight.
I know I find Imogen difficult so didn't expect a quick solve. Resumed after 4.00pm and got 1d, which led to others. I've read through the thread and hope to get more before tackling the special Maskarade tomorrow.

I tried for a while to justify ARMAGEDDON at 1d.

Well much to my surprise I've done all bar one - 25ac. I can't find any word that will fit the letters I have. Can I have a hint please.

I even saw 12ac once I had all the crossers. There are some I'd never heard of like 11ac and I still don't understand the sailors. And many I can't wholly parse, but that seems to be normal for me now.

Hi roof
25a is a dramatist from long ago.
The sailors are the Royal Navy.

Thanks Chris

I read out the crossers to my husband and he got the dramatist straight away.

Thanks for your help and others on the thread. I shan't ask for details on other clues I couldn't fully parse. There are too many.

FOI 1d, LOI 25ac, COD 16ac, though I couldn't parse it, but I got it from the definition.

I made good progress with this but ground to a halt in the NE corner. My last to fill is 14ac and I can’t understand it - I can see an answer that fits the definition (end of the clue) and that has two letters at the start that that fit the wordplay, but I can’t get any further. Please can someone shed light on this? I think this a me problem because it hasn’t beeen discussed already!
