I found a version with 'Fine' in stead of 'fruit', and I am in the same ball park now.

Not having learnt how to read the subject - (theory of ...), I am not sure I can identify the keys and go beyond.

not clear what you're asking, pendragon, but if you mean "first" from the extra letters, then your second word should have 3 letters, as should your third ... spent some time with "in" as the third word until I realised I had to change it to get any sense

I had read muraria@20 several times before I got the context.

Maybe with the context, it might work.

It might be worth mentioning, for those less familiar with the framework, that some interpolation and extrapolation is needed when finding the keys (trying not to give too much away here...)

I now have the grid completed, the 15,30,7 phrase, the extra-word instruction, that instruction found and "understood," and all 6,7 words matched with either 15 or 30. I am not sure whether the fact I can write and notate music hinders me, but I have little idea what the devil is going on, except that the whole crossword is a ***** and one considers every **** rows.

But I am again not asking for help, as I am giving up for the second consecutive month in many years (thanks to the correspondents on here). I may tender my resignation from Mensa!

don't give up, pendragon - you always get there in the end. I found it very frustrating too but the clue is in the top line. If you have that and, as you say, understand music (which I love but have no ability at) you shouldn't find it difficult to find the 15/30/7
