Because you said 5 and 6 are same, in the grid 6 is absent and 7th placed accordingly.

I mentioned that 5 and 6 were the same duration, not the same letter. It’s 4 and 7 that are the same letter.

Looks like I am almost there. My 12-year old grandson cracked it for me, and we verified what we had. This new input from you leads to another solution. I will check again.

18d - Way out in Asia, stay good at heart (3)

I have the answer which, I think, means "way in Asia" thus making "out" an extra word. However, to get to the answer I need the "heart" of two words in the clue, but the second of those two words has 2 letters in the middle, which is one too many, meaning it contains an extra letter - obviously they can't both be right and I've now reached the going round in circles stage, so any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Brendan, It's the single letter that needs removing. I'm not sure about "out", either - unless it means "located in Asia".
