I've just sent a follow up email chastising them for not replying to my earlier one. I didn't come across as Mr Angry but rather just pointed out that it was very poor form.

As I made have said on here before, I cannot abide poor manners, and I think this fits under that heading.

No access to the paper version, but I had a look at the electronic image of both the main paper and the journal in Pressreader. I haven't looked for the Genius there before, so I can only assume it would be in the journal section alongside the cryptic and other puzzles.

.. to expand a bit, l couldn't access the edition for 4th May on Pressreader, that archive only goes back a couple of weeks. But in any case, I believe Genius to be online only, but no access to the May date to double check.

The Genius is now on the Guardian site with a more sensible deadline date of 4 July. Only the 8 vertical answers are required for submission.

I'm probably being stupid, because the rest of the grid was pretty much a write-in, but I can't see the wordplay for 27a. Thanks for any nudge.

First and last 2 letters are the “disappointment” around 3 letters that are “almost” “on holiday”.

Is it just me or is the grid different for the landing page on the Guardian site vs the grid that appears with the 'click here to access the print version' (which seems to be different/wrong).

You’re right. I hadn’t gone further than the submission page. The print grid is obviously unusable - there’s no space for 1d and so on. The Grauniad is surpassing itself!
