Not as difficult ss it sounds. Solve as many of the clues as you can, identifying the 24 redundant words. List these out. These words define 3 letter words which fit into the 3×3 cubes. You should be able to locate 16 of these in the completed grid. These form the tops and bottoms of the cubes. Only thing to do then is to line these up so that the remaining 8 3-letter words can fitted in downwards by entering a letter between. Et voila!

Joni’s very helpful link ( thanks to him) which I followed to get access to the crossword, seems to say we have a December deadline! I might need it.

Grid's been filled and I have had 4 obvious candidates for the 3x3s for hours now. But however many times I come back I can't figure out the SIs.

What's a 3x3 'of four corner letters'??

Surely if each 3x3 only has one black square, that has to be the middle square (ie it must, by default, have letters in the corners)?

There is a 3x3 block in the grid that has letters at its corners ONLY. These letters need to be inserted into the niddle row of the cube.
