And no sooner had I posted when I came up with an answer for perimeter 23 which fits with all my answers for radials 23, 24, 25 and 26, so I think I might be on the right track.

0pt0 - no need to guess...the instructions explicitly say the theme word has 5 letters!

Started this late (yesterday.) By the way, if you look at the puzzle when it comes out, be sure to reread the preamble if you start much later. I could not get any of the perimeter, until I went back and saw wordplay only. Blonde moment.

So I'm about done now, but I can't parse 14. I filled in the message so I know the extra letter, and I see what the entry must be, but I can't see how. Any hints are welcome.

14 -- def is 1st 2 words; wp - the br(a)iny curtailed (2) + starts of "during Eggheads round" (3)

It took me while get it and I'm not even blond, let alone blonde!

Just started on this. Are there any superfluous bars? I can make radials 23 and 24 agree on third and sixth letters, and differ elsewhere EXCEPT fifth letter. But the bar indicates they should differ at fifth letter.

23 & 24 do share letters 3 & 5 (even though their 5th letters don't share a cell) but their 4th letters are different from each other.

Sorry, I didn't answer your first question. Yes there are 2 other "superfluous" bars - another one in circle 5 and one in circle 3.
