That is what I have.

Soooooooo near, yet so far. I have a major problem with the unches is the NE corner.

Hard to know exactly which you’re referring to, but the five consecutive ones starting at 6a spell a New Zealander, with the fourth direction switched.

You've confused me Quisling. I am stuck with the ones in rows 4, 5 (but I guess this is 3 letters from 3 down) and 6, and the downs in columns 7 and 8.

I don’t quite follow. The one in row five is from 3d, in row six from 21a (i).

jbird54, thanks for your help so far, but the hint you gave me for 3 down relates to the second part, whereas it is the first part that I need.

0pt0, jbird54’s hint @ 56 to 3d (i) does refer to the first part of the clue

I have finally completed the puzzle. Not one of my favourites, as you'll have gathered.

Loose end for me is 18(1). It appears that 'most of ground' = gess? Im obviously missing something obvious, but i cant see it.
