I don't want to give too much away (and I can't!), but I cannot get a toehold on the required entry method. For example, my four answers for 25a and 18d, in alphabetical order, begin DRGS, is that correct? as I can't see how they can form 2 words that do not clash where they intersect each other.

Agree with Smellyharry. My first run through gave me half a dozen or so cold solves only. I enjoy struggling with the complex puzzles - though more often or not I can't complete - providing I can cold solve sufficient clues. My salutations to those who persevere and succeed.

Not all of the two-clue entries are composed exclusively of those two answers (as demonstrated by your problem).

jbird54, I now realise that the hint you have given me for 21 down relates to the first part, whereas it is the second part which I need.

21D part 2 - answer is a Scots words for 'shelter'. The first word of the clue is in Latin...
I also missed 2D. Wordplay cycles a word meaning 'by'. Personally don't like the definition to this clue, which relates to music. I think the answer would last several bars, not be part of one!
