6d: definition ("Singer")...one to whom my response is "Yuck"...

First 5 letters are anagram of "metal", next 3 an anagram of "of" + "core piece in heavy".

10a: Defn. "Eat", parses as 3 ("bar") inside 2 ("beer out of case").

Thanks, Geeker. With your hint I got 6d (on whom I share your opinion) and with the extra letter 10a was then easy, without needing to read your hint.

... and as for 3d, I can't begin to imagine how I can have failed to think of that word for "sexy"; it shiuld have been blindingly obvious. Anyway. thanks again.

Back to this with my morning cuppa and I've got further than I expected, although after previous comments I looked up 21a to crack that SE corner. Agree it is a brilliant clue but I don't know that I'd ever have got it! Finished the NW finally after realising I was on the wrong track with 'more responsible'.

Two to go - could I have hints on the definition I'm looking for with 5d and 12a? Is 5d just the first word? Thank you.

5d: Yes, defn. is first word

12a: Defn. also first word, wordplay is straightforward

Yes I had a feeling I was just being dim about 12a! I think I was convinced I was looking for 'samples'... so often I get the tricky clues then stuck on a simple one. Thank you, can have another look at 5d now.

Thanks Geeker.

A hard solve this one and took all day yesterday of dipping in and out. My limited memory may be failing me again, but I don't recall Tramp ever being so tough. Seems to be a near universal opinion on here too.

I may be being silly here, but the last two letters of 22 remain unparsed. Seems to be represented by a single word in the wordplay. Am I missing something obvious?

Hi Mackania,

Chambers gives one definition of the last 2 letters as "in perfect condition" and one definition of "sound" as "in good condition" - although, admittedly, neither would spring to mind as first choices!

Too many dodgy definitions and far too much tortuous wordplay for this to be enjoyable. Several clues are impossible to solve other than via a guess at the definition where crossers allowed, (e.g. 22ac), or a quick chat with Danword.
Despite geeker's explanation,
I still can't see 11ac, other than it possibly being the misspelling of a popular type of hot drink vaguely resembling coffee, preceded by tbe ubiquitous two letter prefix for "do it again".
