Still in progress here. About half way through and have hit an impasse. Meanwhile I just discovered this, and thought it might be of interest to this group.

geeker - I only got the school bit because it came up recently in another crossword. I’ve seen it before, but it still seems to skip my mind in favour of the other, related, 3-letter school. If you see what I mean.

3-letter school, there is one more companion 3-letter word, appear only crosswords :-)

Slip, not skip, my mind of course. Slip of the thumb rather than of the tongue, which I mention only lest you think me a descendant of Mrs Malaprop.

Finally parsed 11 as 1, 1, 5. The first 1 is fairly obvious, but the second is tricky and eventually I figured out (process of elimination?) that the 5 is "to come".

Geeker, I concur with that parsing of 11, can’t think what else it could be.

Not too bad a start for me. FOIs 9a, 10a, 1d, 16a.
There’s a US spelling and an abbreviation that I thought might have been indicated and for me some tricksy areas in the SW and NE. Overall quite challenging.

Been at this one hour and I have three solved. I have quite a busy day today so fearing a dnf. I would ask for help here but wouldn't know where to start. Perhaps some help parsing 16 would let me fill that in.

Didn't enjoy this much, and several question marks.
