@ish "Try" in this instance is used as in a court of law.

Nicola 24 and 25 are the only two that I can't get, though I'm a fan of Yorkshire.

Just got 24. So simple...
My favourite was 8d for its classic cryptic form.

Brendan, at 08.18. I've looked up the puzzle and that clue, 10 A. I can honestly say that I have never heard a real person use that word, in speech or in writing. I think It was probably used by some of the papers, during the period when the topic was of interest. I think it might have been a bit like Megxit (for you know who leaving Britain), a 'handy' word but one rarely used in the real world!

I'm another who isn't convinced 10a is a word. Also the definition for 12a is wrong. It might be a component, but it isn't explosive by itself.

At least it has let me in to do it the last two weeks!

Ethereal, for 24, think about how she was martyred.
For 25, the straight clue is at the beginning. “Section” is the indicator. You’ll like them when you get them!

Thanks Malone @18

I wondered if it was a well known word that just didn't make it across the border, but your comparison to Megxit and the like makes much more sense.

I'm glad you saw my post Malone as I referenced you a couple of times over the last few months but didn't get a reply. I wasn't sure if it was that you hadn't seen them or did but deemed them not worthy of a reply.... or worse as...

... one of them referenced The Book of Kells 'incident' when, as you may remember, I had a total meldown, and this made me wonder if, maybe mention of it had set off in you a trauma induced flashback leading to an episode of PTSD!

Hello again, Brendan. I often forget to browse the Guardian or Observer threads and they're sometimes so long that I read only the first or last pages!

I do remember your Book of Kells meltdown. It was great fun, you were getting more indignant by the minute. I enjoyed your enthusiasm, misguided though it turned out to be, for your solution, reasoning etc.

I know, right? Talk about digging one's heels in!

Anyway, it's good we can laugh about it now.

You're a good sport Malone:-)
